PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, Jan 16 (PRIME) -- The Russian economy is stable, its condition is significantly better than expected, President Vladimir Putin said in an interview to Rossiya 1 television channel aired on January 15.

“The situation in the economy is stable, moreover, it is far better than not only our adversaries expected, but better than even we forecasted,” he said.

The macroeconomic indicators show that -- unemployment is at its historic low, and inflation is lower than expected and even has a tendency for a further contraction, he said, adding that the consumer prices are expected to plummet to 5% at the end of March from the current 11.9%.

“Besides, our industrial production is on the rise, as well as the agriculture and housing construction. In general, I think that our situation is not just stable, I think it is satisfactory, if not good,” Putin said.
